- Frequently Asked Questions - |
Q: Why is a trial run suggested for weddings? A. A trial run is suggested for a wedding or special event as it gives you, the client the opportunity to determine if the makeup artist and hair stylist are right for you. This also allows time to make any minor adjustments and to be aware of any special requests or concerns you may have. If you do not feel comfortable with the service that is performed, you may want to hire another artist or stylist. In short, a trial run ensures that you will like what you get on your special day and leave nothing to chance. Back to top of pageQ: Why is the trial run the same price as the service? A: It is the same price because it takes the same amount of time if not longer to perform the service at a trial run. As working professionals, this is how we make our living. Back to top of pageQ: What can we do to prepare for wedding makeup? A: Have your hair washed and dried the night before, as too clean hair is harder to work with. Have a facial maybe a week or two before, to ensure that skin looks and feels it best. Have eyebrows waxed or threaded about a week before. Be sure to eat and brush your teeth before we get started working on you. Have someone else watch your children and hold your cell phone so that you can relax while we take care of you. Back to top of pageQ: Is there anything we should avoid before wedding or special event? A: Yes! There are several things to keep in mind. Avoid washing hair or having it still wet when we arrive. Too clean or damp hair does not hold the style as well. Avoid having eyebrows waxed the same day or the day before. Skin tends to get red and sometimes skin peels off after a wax, preventing you from looking your very best. Avoid going to a new stylist or Aesthetician right before your wedding or special event. This is not the time to be experimenting with new styles or colors and you certainly do not want to risk having a breakout from a facial or having your eyebrows looking uneven from an inexperienced waxer. If you are going to tan, use extreme caution. Do not put yourself in a position where you will get sunburned or dehydrated on your special day. Use SPF and do not over do it if you lay in the sun. If you go to the tanning salon, start out slowly and build up gradually. If you use a self-tanner or get a spray tan, start doing it at least a week or two before so that if you do not like the color or if you break out, there is time to correct it. In other words, less is more and be cautious and conservative with all that you do. The good news is that if something does go wrong, we can probably fix it. Back to top of pageQ: I have heard so much about airbrush makeup, is it better? A: I would have to say that it is a personal preference. I feel confident using Cinema Secrets foundations or IWATA's airbrush. It depends on the amount of coverage you want and the look you want to create. Airbrush is best for High Definition TV and magazines, however, for weddings and other events where standard photography is used, one is not better than the other. Airbrush does feel a bit thicker and may provide more coverage and wear longer than standard foundation. Back to top of pageQ: How experienced are you with women of color? I am half Chinese, half African American. A: We are VERY comfortable working on women of all ages and ethnic groups. We have a wide array of colors to match all skin tones and we can make anyone look their best. This is our full time business, what we do everyday, so put your trust in us and we will make you look beautiful! Back to top of pageQ: My skin is very oily and I am worried that my foundation will not last throughout the day. What can I do? A: We use a professional product, and we also know how to apply it so that it stays on. We will be more than happy to show you how to layer the products. Blotting papers are a good to have on hand in case you start to "shine". Back to top of pageQ: I am Asian. Can you make my eyes look bigger? A: YES! And we can show you how we did it so that you can do it yourself later. Back to top of pageQ: Do you use waterproof mascara, what if I cry at my wedding? A: YES! We use ONLY waterproof mascara and we will provide you with things to touch up with later. Back to top of pageQ: Do you cover tattoos? A: Yes we do, as well as birthmarks and scars. Back to top of pageQ: Why would a man get makeup? Do you have to use special makeup? A: More men are wearing makeup these days. Generally they will want it for TV appearances or photos.
Basic male makeup is very light, just foundation, powder, a little blush, brow shadow, clear or nude gloss.
Sometimes eyeliner and mascara will be added, however, it depends on the person and occasion.
Q: My 11 year old niece is to be my flower girl and I want her to wear makeup but I do not want her too look like too " adult. " How will you make her look? A: As a general rule, children 5 and under just get blush and lip gloss. Children ages 6 to 12 get blush, lip gloss, eyeshadow and light mascara. Children ages 13 and older can get the full makeup, however, we will always consult with a parent or guardian first to make sure we are on the same page. Back to top of pageQ: Is all the work shown on your site done by the same person and is this who will be doing my hair and makeup for the date of my event? A: The makeup is done by Laura Suzanne Snell and some of the more basic hair styles. The more advanced hair styles, the updo's, etc are the work of about 6 to 8 local stylists that work with me, most of whom are also makeup artists. Q: Do you do only weddings? Your site seems to be based on weddings. A: Weddings are what we specialize in, however, we do a lot of other types of makeup as well. Fashion and Beauty Makeup, Photos, TV and Film, Special Events, etc. We can accommodate most any request as we have a network of skilled artists that we work with. Back to top of pageQ: Do you work out of a salon or are you willing to travel? A: For weddings and special events, private lessons, etc we come to you. For facials and waxing, I perform these services at Cloud9 Day Spa, located at Cheyenne and Tenaya just off the 95 freeway next to Dona Maria Tamales. The number of the salon is 702-871-8663. Please contact my cell, 702-324-8361 to check availability before booking a facial or waxing service. Thank you. Back to top of pageQ: Are you licensed? A: Yes, I hold an Aestheticians license for the State of Nevada and soon to be California as well. Back to top of pageQ: How much schooling have you had or are you just a "natural"? A: I have completed the Aesthetics course (600 hours) as well as other courses through Cinema Secrets, MAC, Ryder Labs, Trucco to name a few. I have always been somewhat creative and artistic, as a kid I would draw and paint a good deal, so the "artistic eye" is something that comes naturally to me as well as a skill that I have honed over the years. I strive to be better than I was the day before, and I do this by always learning new techniques and keeping my skills fresh and up to date. Back to top of pageQ: There are so many artists out there with great sites and impressive resumes and portfolios, why should I hire you ? A: While I would agree with you that there are many gifted artists available for you to choose from, I would encourage you to really look closely at my site. The examples of my work are recent, the testimonials are all from actual clients, our prices are fair and I am a professional. If you read the "About Me" page you will get a greater sense of my style. In short, if you like my work and the way I come across, call me and after speaking with me directly, if you feel at ease, then we can book an appointment. It is very important to like the style of the artist that you choose and to feel comfortable with that person. You will find me very easy to talk to you and I can assure you that I am professional and reliable. Back to top of pageQ: What can we as clients do to make your job easier for wedding day hair and makeup? A: You can let us know what time and where you are getting married, give us an accurate ( or close to accurate) head count
of how many people will be wanting the service, provide us with a working cell phone number, let us know what name the hotel
room is reserved under, and PLEASE remember to call us as soon as you check in with a room number so we know where
to go and if you should change hotels, PLEASE let us know that as well! Q: Why do you ask for a $25 deposit and why PayPal? Is the deposit deducted from the fee? A: A deposit guarantees your appointment. Once a deposit is made, that time belongs to you. Without a deposit, we cannot guarantee the appointment if another party wants the same time and date. In essence, a deposit sets apart the serious from the curious. The florist, photographer, caterer, etc require a deposit and as wedding professionals it is our policy to do so as well. There are no exceptions to this policy. The deposit is not deducted from the service fee, it is a small administrative fee that guarantees the date. We use PayPal for your convenience and because it is a secure site. Back to top of pageQ: What methods of payment do you accept and what is your policy? A: For weddings, it is cash only at time of service. We DO NOT accept personal checks or credit cards. For corporate events, photo shoots, fashion shows, etc we will accept corporate checks at time of service provided that your company is local. For out of town clients, we must be paid in full at time of service. For film, television and production we understand that it is industry to standard for payment by check within thirty days. Back to top of pageQ: What happens in you are not able to keep the appointment? A: So far that has not happened as we have a large enough pool of talented artists that we work with. In the event of a car accident or sudden illness, we would make every attempt to send another artist, however, in the event that we just could not get there, we would of course refund your deposit and offer our sincere apologies. Fortunately that has yet to happen. Amen. Back to top of pageQ: Explain the half day and full day rate concept A: This is something commonly used for productions, conventions, television, etc.
Rather than paying per hour or per person, the client is in essence hiring us for a block of time.
A half day rate is $350 for up to 5 hours and a full day rate is $650 up to 10 hours.
Lunch or dinner is generally provided, otherwise known as "craft services". |
